Srinivas Institute of Dental Sciences , Mukka, Surathkal, Mangalore conducted “Oral Hygiene Day” programme at the Mangalore Police Commissionerate by having an “Oral Hygiene Awareness & Treatment Camp” for around 75 administrative staff of the commissionerate. Shri. Subramaniam, ACP, City Crime and Records Bureau, who also unveiled a portrait of Dr. G. B Shankwalkar.
Prof (Dr).Manoj Varma, Dean SIDS addressed the gathering emphasizing the importance of this day. Dr Sharath Karanth Head Dept of Periodontics, welcomed the gathering. Dr. Priyadarshini H.R i/c Head Dept of Public Health Dentistry delivered a talk on “Importance of Oral Hygiene”. Dr. Bennete Fernandes, Prof Dept of Periodontics, delivered the Vote of thanks. The function was well coordinated by Dr Kelvin Pais, Senior Lecturer of the Dept of Public Health Dentistry. Oral prophylaxis was done within the police commissionerate premises in the state-of-the art mobile dental unit. The “Oral Hygiene Day” is celebrated every year by the Indian Society of Periodontology (ISP) on Aug 1st to commemorate the Birthday of Dr Govind B. Shankwalkar the pioneer of Indian Periodontics & his immense contribution to Indian Periodontic Society. On this day the institution has undertaken a years’ programme to provide dental treatment to all the police personnel of 18 police stations coming under the jurisdiction of Mangalore city limits.
