Department of Mechanical Engineering, Srinivas School of Engineering, Mukka organized a technical talk on “Recent Advances in Tool Design”, under the banner of Association of Integrated Mechanical Engineering Students (AIMES) on 20th August, 2014. The speaker for the program was Mr. Nagendra B.G, Asst. Manager at Kennametals Shared Services Pvt. Ltd.
The program was held for the final year students of Mechanical Engineering. Mr. Nagendra B.G enlightened students on the importance of tool design in manufacturing. The contents of his speech included the clearance angles, rake angles and relief angles for both single point and multipoint cutting tools. He also stressed about the steps taken in industries to improve the tool life.
Mold and die building can be a very complicated process and it requires lot of training and knowledge to calculate the feed/speeds required to make precise cuts with drills, end mills and other sophisticated machine tools like CNC machines. Hence tool design plays a very important role in the field of manufacturing.
After the talk, an interactive session was held by the resource person about the commonly asked interview question in the field of manufacturing. Students took part in the session with great enthusiasm.
